What actually decides whether it works
Price is the easy part. These are the points that decide whether the site is still properly lit in three years' time, not just on the first night.
Specify the light on the ground, not the watts on the box
Two 100 W fittings can put very different amounts of light where you need it. Tell us the area, the mounting height and the job, and we ask the manufacturer for a lighting layout showing the light level at the ground before we quote. That is how we know the number of fittings is right.
Height changes the product, not just the quantity
Hexagon and batten lights suit workshop ceilings of three to four metres. At seven metres and above you need high bays, floodlights or canopy lights with a narrower beam, or much of the light never reaches the floor. We match the fitting type to the height first.
IP and IK ratings decide how long outdoor lights last
Rain, dust and the odd stone are what kill outdoor fittings. Look for IP65 or better outdoors, an impact rating where people or vehicles are close, and a surge-protected driver — our grid is not kind to cheap drivers.
Lighting is regulated here
Lighting products sold in South Africa fall under compulsory safety specifications, and fuel stations have extra rules for fittings near the pumps. We confirm the position for the specific product before quoting, and we ask for certificates in writing rather than taking a logo on a brochure as proof.
On a solar light, the battery is the product
A solar street light is only as good as its battery and how many cloudy nights it can ride through. Ask the battery chemistry, the real capacity and the nights of autonomy, and be sceptical of wattage claims on all-in-one units — the panel size tells you more.
You're trading the dealer network for the price
That's the honest trade. There is no branded technician on standby. Keep a few spare drivers on the shelf, buy fittings with replaceable drivers rather than sealed units, and budget for a local electrician for installation and the certificate of compliance.

How many lights do I need?
It depends on the area, the mounting height and the light level the job needs. Send us the dimensions and we ask the manufacturer for a lighting layout with the light levels, so the quantity is calculated rather than guessed.
Are hexagon lights suitable outdoors?
Most are made for indoor workshops and car detailing bays with ceilings of three to four metres. For outdoor use or high ceilings you need a weatherproof fitting designed for the height, which is usually a canopy light, high bay or floodlight.
Can you supply lights for a fuel station?
Yes. Canopy lights near the pumps need the right weather, impact and, where required, hazardous-area rating. We ask for the certificate in writing before we confirm, and your electrician should confirm the fittings suit the pump area.
Do you install?
No. Delivery is in the landed price; installation is done by a local electrician, who issues the certificate of compliance. We would rather say that plainly than quote a turnkey price we cannot stand behind.
