What actually decides whether it works
Price is the easy part. These are the points that decide whether the plant is profitable or an expensive standstill.
The mould often costs more than the machine
A moulding machine without a mould makes nothing, and a mould is made to your part, in steel, with a lead time of its own. This is the single most under-budgeted item in a first plastics project. We quote the tooling alongside the machine so you see the real number from the start.
Prove your supply before you buy the plant
A recycling line is only as good as the material coming in. Baled feedstock supply and price move, and a washing line running at a third of capacity does not pay for itself. Confirm where the material comes from and at what price for a full year before committing.
The screw is specific to what you run
A screw designed for PE will not process PVC well and may not survive it. Tell us the exact polymer and whether you are running virgin, regrind or a blend, because it changes the screw design, the drive and sometimes the whole machine.
This is heavy plant with real utility demand
South Africa runs 400 V three phase at 50 Hz and plant built for 50 Hz markets matches the frequency, but the connected load is substantial and so is cooling water. Confirm both against your site before ordering — this is not equipment you can move onto a small supply.
Costed output, not rated output
A machine rated at a cycle time achieves it with an optimal mould, a dry material and a good operator. Ask what the realistic cycle is for your part and work your costing from that number, not the brochure one.
You're trading the dealer network for the price
That's the honest trade. There is no branded technician on standby. Budget for a relationship with a good local hydraulics and controls technician, and buy with that in mind — which is an argument for standard drives and controls over proprietary systems.
Manufacturers ask these
Will it run on South African power?
Yes, if it is specified correctly — we specify 50 Hz equipment for a 50 Hz country, so drives and motors run at the right speed. This is heavy three-phase plant, so we confirm the connected load against your actual supply and transformer before ordering, not after.
Do you supply the moulds as well?
Yes, and we quote them with the machine because leaving them out makes a project look cheaper than it is. Tooling is made to your part, in steel, with its own lead time, and it frequently costs more than the machine it goes into.
Is a recycling line a good business here?
It can be, and it depends almost entirely on feedstock. The plant is the easy part to buy. Secure and price your material supply for a full year before you commit, because a washing line running well below capacity does not cover its own cost.
What lead time should I expect?
Longer than the other lines we handle, because moulding machines and extrusion lines are frequently built to order and tooling runs on its own schedule. We give you the supplier's date and we tell you when we think it is optimistic.
